Founded on Solidarity and Courage
DefenderLink Africa was born from the urgent need to protect those who courageously defend the rights of others. In 2014, a group of experienced human rights advocates came together with a shared vision: to create a dedicated organization that would serve as a lifeline for defenders facing threats across Africa.
Our founders had witnessed firsthand the risks faced by human rights defenders—journalists exposing corruption, lawyers fighting for justice, community activists protecting land rights, and women's rights advocates challenging harmful practices. They understood that without proper support systems, these brave individuals would continue to face intimidation, harassment, imprisonment, and even death.
Today, DefenderLink Africa has grown into a respected pan-African organization with regional offices in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria, and our headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia. We have supported over 500 human rights defenders across more than 25 countries, providing emergency assistance, training, and advocacy support.
